HOW DID KING LEOPOLD II AFFECT THE CONGO?
Leopold ruled during a time where Europe was very ambitious about discovering Africa. Not many Europeans have ever went to Africa before and did not know what awaits. Congo is located on the west cost of Africa and there are several rivers that run through it which makes the Congo a good trading post. Along with that, Congo also is the highest amount of rubber trees during the time when rubber was becoming intensly popular and wanted. The demand for economic advancements, unknown ambition, and an convenient profit led Leopold to destroy his own colony. He cared too much about being successful economically, he did not much care about whether or not his colonies failed or succeeded and if they even liked their colonizer.
